It’s December and we’re now in the home straight heading for Christmas! Where did the year go? Let’s have a look at a couple of things that you can do in the garden and around the home this month to prepare.
If you need to brighten up the garden or get some colour in pots the sooner you do it the better. There is plenty of potted colour, single pots or six packs in the garden centres at the moment. Planting into gaps and pots now gives them a few weeks to fill out meaning a better, brighter display for Christmas Day. Another instant colour fix at the moment are Hydrangeas. Perfect for pots and semi shaded areas of the garden these are looking stunning now with blue, pink, red or white flowers. Hydrangeas are also a fantastic idea as a gift for gardeners, along with a range of other garden items that I’ll mention later.
Another area of the garden that may need a bit of attention is the lawn. Lawn beetle is starting to appear now, so if you see yellow patches in the lawn they may well be the cause, birds feeding on the lawn after you water is another good sign. Beetle can be treated with granules or sprays. The yellowing may also be caused by other cultural factors, so if in doubt ask one of our garden team members for advice. If the lawn hasn’t had a feed for a while do it now, this will have it looking great for that Christmas Day cricket match!
Don’t neglect your outdoor furniture either. Wooden tables and chairs may need a clean and re-oil to have them in tip top condition for the festive season, or perhaps you may need some new cushions. Whatever you require to get the garden and patio ready come in and speak to one of our staff, we’re only too happy to assist you!
Gardeners love getting gifts that they can use in their gardens, and we have plenty of things that would make great gifts. As I said earlier we have beautiful Hydrangea to which you could add plants like Elk and Staghorn, Herb pots, Tree ferns and many more. Some other things that make good gifts are kneeling pad/seats, garden tools, pots, garden ornaments and a host of others. Come in and have a browse, and if you still can’t make up your mind there’s always a Stratco Voucher, so the recipient can choose their own gift!
From all at Stratco have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
