In today's eco-conscious world, the desire for fresh, homegrown produce has sparked a surge in innovative gardening solutions. Enter Vegepod, the game-changer in sustainable gardening that’s taking Australia by storm. Vegepod’s range of raised garden beds offers a self-contained garden option for growing fruits, veggies, herbs, and more. Let’s look at the steps to get started with your Vegepod and make the most of it.
Choosing the right spot for your Vegepod
For the best plant growing, your Vegepod will need to be in a position where it receives at least 4 hours of direct sunshine every day, more if you can find it. The great thing about the Vegepod range is that you can purchase trolley stands that make it easy to move and place your Vegepod anywhere you need.
Don’t underestimate your potting mix!
To provide the best growing environment for your herbs & veggies to thrive in, don’t scrimp on your potting mix when filling your Vegepod. Choose a premium potting mix that is clearly marked with the Australian Premium Standard red label with the five ticks. Stratco sells a range of premium potting mixes for use with your Vegepod. To fill your new raised garden bed you should need:
- Small Vegepod - 3x 30L bags of premium potting mix
- Medium Vegepod - 6x 30L bags of premium potting mix
- Large Vegepod - 11x 30L bags of premium potting mix
Using Vegepod's Perlite Plus
Vegepod Perlite Plus 50L assists in the wicking process, better drainage for your plants, and provides rock minerals for better tasting veggies! Add a light layer on top of your wicking beds when setting up your Vegepod then mix the rest through your premium potting mix in the pod for the perfect start to get growing.
We suggest:
- Small Vegepod- 1x bag Perlite Plus 50L
- Medium Vegepod- 1x bag Perlite Plus 50L
- Large Vegepod- 2x bags Perlite Plus 50L
It's Planting time!
Making sure you choose the most suitable herbs & veg for your climate and for the time of year is key to success, so make sure you check in with our Stratco Garden Centre team members if you're not sure what you should be planting.
We suggest choosing dwarf tomatoes (that only grow to 60cm high), chilies, eggplants, zucchinis, capsicums, lettuce, basil, parsley, and coriander for spring growing!
Give it a big drink!
Once planting has been done, your seeds or seedlings will need a big drink to get them settled into the Vegepod. Water your Vegepod by hand for the first two weeks after planting then you can start to use our mist irrigation system or continue to water by hand. After the plants are starting to grow, you should only need to water them every week to two weeks depending on the weather as the wicking beds underneath will start to recycle the water in the reservoirs and allow the plants to draw the water up.
Feed fortnightly with Vegepod Booster through spring/summer for great growing results.
With your Vegepod set up and following regular maintenance, your chosen crops will be thriving in no time. The raised garden bed design makes it super easy to maintain and plant, making gardening and maintenance a breeze.
