More About The Block Conditions
The major environmental factors taken into account when engineering these Stratco sheds were to sustain loading for a design gust wind speed of 45 m/s (metres per second) and Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) 12.5 for the construction of a building in a bushfire-prone area.
The contestants' Stratco sheds sit at an impressive 24m long x 8m wide with 3.2m high walls with an imposing 6.6m ridge height, so they were always going to be very exposed to the wind. Our team of Stratco Engineers ensured that they were not only safe, but had enough rigidity to accommodate glass windows and skylights by restricting the movement within the shed framework and preventing potential cracking of these glass features.
To accommodate the high rainfall intensity in the region, an extra large 150mm wide half-round gutter was chosen to manage the large volume of water draining off these enormous roofs at high speed (due to the steep 40-degree roof pitch). Its large 150mm diameter profile has one of the largest water carrying capacities on the market and was the perfect drainage solution for these massive sheds. Once again our engineers had to ensure the gutters were compliant and provided the appropriate drainage measures to carry the torrential run-off.
